India-based steelmaker Essar Steel has announced that it has commissioned an iron ore pellet producing facility with an annual capacity of 6 million mt in Paradip, Odisha state. This is the first phase of the 12 million mt per year pellet plant to be commissioned by 2013.
Bhubaneshwar: Essar Steel on Thursday announced the commissioning of an integrated 6 million tonne iron ore pellet plant near Paradip in Odisha. The factory is linked by a 253-km slurry pipeline with a facility which is located at Odisha's iron ore belt and can beneficiate low-grade ore.
Essar Steel said it hopes to commence mining from its captive iron ore block in Odisha in the first quarter of 2017-18. The steel maker recently bagged the Ghoraburhani-Sagasahi block in Odisha through auctions, quoting a premium of 44.35 per cent above the reserve price and outbidding strong contenders like Tata Steel and Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.

Essar Steel has commissioned a 6Mt/y pellet making facility at the port of Paradip in Odisha (Orissa) NE India. This is the first phase of a 12Mt/y pellet plant to be commissioned by 2013. Essar Steel is investing Rs 42000M ($756M) in the project as part of its ongoing investments in the state of Odisha.

10/4/2012 Essar needs around 20 million tonnes of iron ore every year for its 10 MTPA flat steel factory in Hazira. Though the Hazira plant also uses other forms of iron ore such as lumps, slimes and sinter, the company’s Chief Financial Officer Amit Agarwal said that it will be able to produce 20 million tonne pellets by the end of 2012-13 by increasing the Paradip plant capacity to 12 MTPA.
